Incised Porcelain Pillow
with "Ju-i" Scepter Decor
Tz'u-chow Ware
Sung Dynasty
(A.D. 960-1279)
Overall width 29.8cm
Overall length 36.2cm
In the Sung dynasty,
Tz'u-chow ware was a
popular ceramic ware of
North China associated
exclusively with articles
of daily use. This pillow
in the shape of a "ju-i"
scepter is casually
incised with a floral motif,
illuminating in its
homeliness the taste of
ordinary folk of the period.
